Privacy Policy

Draft, pending founder review. This policy is written to be accurate to how the service actually works today, but it hasn't had a legal review yet. Don't treat it as final until that review is done.

Who this covers

Return Me Homes ("we", "us", "the service") makes customisable QR and NFC tags for pets and belongings. This policy explains what personal information we collect through returnme.homes, why we collect it, and how it's protected — for both tag owners and the people who find a lost item and use the site to contact them.

What we collect

What we deliberately don't collect or expose

A finder can never see an owner's phone number or email — the tag's public page only ever shows what the owner chose to display (name/note/photo) plus a message form.
An owner never sees a finder's contact details unless the finder chooses to share them.
We don't ask for or store payment information on this site — tags are currently sold in person at markets.

How we use it

To operate the core service: showing a tag's page when scanned, and relaying a finder's message to the owner.
To notify an owner by email when someone finds their item.
To let an owner sign in and manage their tags (edit details, or suspend a tag that's lost or been replaced).

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the site. Each only sees what it needs to do its job:

Google — for signing in, if you choose Google sign-in.
Supabase — our database provider, which stores account and tag information.
Vercel — hosts the website.
Cloudflare — sits in front of the domain for security and performance.
An email delivery provider (to be finalised) — sends the "someone found your tag" notification.

Some of these providers may store or process data on servers located outside Australia. We choose providers that meet recognised security and privacy standards, and we don't disclose personal information to anyone else without your consent unless required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep tag and account information for as long as the tag is active or the account exists. If you suspend or delete a tag, or ask us to delete your account, we'll remove the associated personal information within a reasonable time, except where we're required to keep records for legal reasons.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To do any of these, or if you have a complaint about how we've handled your information, email hello@returnme.homes — we'll respond as soon as we can.

Location data

If you're a finder using the contact form, your browser may ask permission to share your approximate location. This is entirely optional, only used to help the owner understand where their item was found, and only sent if you allow it.

Children

Return Me Homes is intended for adults registering their own pets or belongings. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
